Careers in Dentistry

India's healthcare sector keeps growing, and with it the demand for qualified dentists — in government and private hospitals, multi-speciality centres, community health programmes, teaching institutions and corporate dental chains. Many graduates go on to open their own clinics.

Beyond clinical practice, BDS graduates work in clinical research, healthcare consulting, dental product companies, medical writing and public health. Specialising through a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) — in orthodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, paediatric dentistry, oral medicine or oral pathology — widens those options further.

Rising awareness of oral health, along with implants, cosmetic and digital dentistry, makes the long-term outlook for skilled dentists strong in India and abroad.

Where BDS Graduates Work

  • Private practice
