The Bachelor of Computer Applications is a three-year undergraduate computing degree built around programming and application development: C, C++, Java and Python, data structures, database management, operating systems, computer networks, web and mobile development, and software engineering.
It is the practical route into technology work for students who did not take Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or who want a shorter and cheaper degree than a B.Tech. Most programmes end with an industry project or internship, and good ones expect you to have shipped something by graduation.
A BCA is also a clean launchpad for an MCA or an MBA in information systems, and employers in IT services, fintech, e-commerce and government technology units hire BCA graduates for development, testing, analytics and support roles.
Any stream is accepted at most colleges. Mathematics or Computer Science helps, and a few universities insist on Mathematics.
Some admit purely on board marks, others through CUET-UG or their own entrance test. Note each deadline — they differ by months.
File each application with your marks and documents, then write the entrance test where one applies.
University-level counselling, a personal interview or both decide the final list at many colleges.
Present your original mark sheets, ID and certificates for verification.
Confirm the seat by the deadline — unpaid seats are released to the next candidate on the list.
A mix of long-established colleges and private universities with strong placement records. Fees are for the full three-year programme.

Most universities let you pick a track in the second or third year. These are the ones with the clearest hiring demand.
| Specialisation | What you learn | Typical first roles |
|---|---|---|
| Full-stack development | JavaScript frameworks, APIs, databases, version control | Frontend, backend or full-stack developer |
| Data science and analytics | Python, SQL, statistics, visualisation, machine learning basics | Data analyst, reporting analyst, junior data scientist |
| Cloud computing | AWS or Azure services, containers, deployment pipelines | Cloud support engineer, DevOps associate |
| Cyber security | Network security, ethical hacking, security operations | Security analyst, SOC analyst |
| Mobile application development | Android, iOS or cross-platform frameworks | Mobile application developer |
| Artificial intelligence | Machine learning, natural language processing, model deployment | AI or ML associate engineer |
Salaries in computing track skills more closely than degrees. A strong project portfolio moves these numbers more than the college name does.
| Stage | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Fresher (0–1 year) | ₹2.5 – ₹5 LPA |
| 3–5 years of experience | ₹6 – ₹12 LPA |
| After an MCA or MBA | ₹8 – ₹20+ LPA |
